The Rainforests
Australia also has many tropical rainforests! The map to the right shows where most of the rainforest is located in Australia. The country used to have more rainforests, but three-fourths of them have been cleared away in the last 200 years. |
You are visiting the Daintree Rainforest in the southern part of the rainforest chain shown on the map above. This rainforest is believed to be the oldest rainforest in the world (110 million years old!). It is also the second largest rainforest in the entire world.

Luckily you brought your rain gear because it is rainy, wet, and cold. The tour guide tells you that in the northern rainforests the weather is more dry and tropical. You come across many beautiful frogs and butterflies. Millions of other animals are also housed in the rainforest such as marsupials, birds, and reptiles.
